The key to sustainable living is to invest in durable, high quality products, taking good care of them by reusing and repairing them, and supporting local craftsmanship and small businesses.
local craftsmanship
Julia Bartsch Jewellery pieces are designed and entirely handcrafted in Paris. The jewellery’s raw material is bought and cast within a 2km radius from the designer’s atelier which makes the production process 100% local. As each piece of jewellery is handcrafted individually, manufacturing does not require heavy machinery. This results in less emissions.
one-woman-show
Julia Bartsch Jewellery is a one-woman-show. All Julia Bartsch Jewellery pieces are designed and handcrafted by the designer herself in her Paris- based atelier. This includes even finishing processes such as polishing and hallmarking which contributes to minimising the brand’s ecological footprint.
material choice & longevity
Using recycled sterling silver as a base material for all Julia Bartsch Jewellery pieces is a conscious choice to promote longevity. As silver is a very durable material, silver jewellery lasts a lifetime (if not several). Due to its natural qualities, sterling silver can be remelted, repolished or replated at any time. Thus, your Julia Bartsch Jewellery piece will never lose its value and appeal. Compared to commonly used metals such as brass, copper and zinc, sterling silver is considered to be a precious metal of high value. Amongst others because it is a limited natural resource. In order to preserve the material’s natural beauty and to minimise the brand’s ecological footprint, no silver jewellery items of the collection are additionally rhodium- plated.
made-to-order
Overproduction is a serious threat to the environment. Therefore, one of the key values of Julia Bartsch Jewellery is to avoid unsold stock which goes to waste. That’s why each piece of jewellery is handcrafted individually after being ordered. The made-to-order system allows Julia Bartsch Jewellery not to over-produce, crafting only the amount of jewellery that is actually sold.
recycling & zero waste
Julia Bartsch Jewellery takes responsibility for the environment. Each piece of jewellery is crafted following a strict zero waste policy. The entire metal waste generated during the manufacturing process is collected and recycled locally to create new Julia Bartsch Jewellery pieces. The silver used by Julia Bartsch Jewellery is recycled and purchased from a Paris- based supplier who is a certified member of the Responsible Jewellery Council.
