manufacturing process

All Julia Bartsch jewellery pieces are exclusively handcrafted by the designer herself in her Paris- based atelier. Each piece is individually hand sculptured according to the traditionally used method of lost-wax-casting. Lost-wax-casting is one of the oldest known metal-forming techniques and one of the most accurate ways to create even the finest pieces of jewellery. Each product is first hand-carved from wax, resulting in a wax pattern from which a mould is made from a refractory material. Heating the mold melts away the wax inside, leaving a negative cavity in the shape of the original model. Molten silver is then poured into the mold. Once the molten metal has cooled, the mould is removed - leaving us with a fine Julia Bartsch jewellery piece exactly resembling the original wax pattern. Julia Bartsch strives for as much in- house manufacturing as possible. This even includes surface finishing processes such as polishing, hallmarking and gold plating. Crafting each piece of jewellery locally by hand allows Julia Bartsch Jewellery to offer unique jewellery of the highest quality.
